Haven't been updating my blog in a while, not that many ppl await eagerly in front of their coms for my next post or something.

My phone finally could not detect my memory card and luckily Lawrence lent me his spare HTC Touch 3G phone so am slowly getting used to the touch interface. Ha.

Finally watched Transformers at Vivo last Sun. It doesn't deserve the crap review from the papers, but it isn't the best as well. Endings are usual, swift and unconclusive, leaving the audience in a duststorm...

Went to Bather's yesterday with Princess and tucked into a nice dinner of soup and steak. It's at Clementi Arcade at Sunset Way. Pretty inaccessible and I had to grab a cab from Clementi. Another reason to get my licence and a car soon... I chose the venison and she got the ribeye. Hers looks way scrumptious than mine.. The chef / owner gave us complimentary glasses of red wine cos we made a reservation which they might have forgotten about it and hastily set up a table in the crowded restaurant. After that we headed over to the Daily Scoop (beside Bather's)for some ice cream. We had Butterscotch Pecan (sinfully sweet) and Lychee Martini (My sis's favourite and amazingly light in taste) Bought a tub of it later back for my sis.

The ice cream shop was small and many people were eyeing us after we had finished our ice cream, so we set off for Holland V. I thought it would be tough to find a cab there but about 3-4 empty cabs appeared as soon as we started to walk out. Talk about a streak of luck! Went to Starbucks and had a cuppa and we chatted late into the night. It was a pretty good way to spend a Friday evening. Looking forward to the next one where we go find ourselves some good mutton curry! Any suggestions anyone? =)

My own TV!

It's been a long wait but it's finally here. My 32" Full HD TV in my own room. Got it at the recent PC Show without batting an eyelid.. It looks great when hooked up to my PS3. Played some games and watched a Blu-Ray movie. Simply fantastic~ Playing Assasin's Creed and MGS4 right now...

For the non-Chinese friends out there, the title means brother. It could refer to your very own blood brother or your very good guy friend.

Speaking of which, I was one of the 兄弟 for my good friend's, YY, wedding, which typically involves accompany the groom very early in the morning to the bride's house and fetch the bride from her parent's place. However, the task isn't as simple as it seems. The bride also has her sisters a.k.a 姐妹 who will think of devious tasks for the groom and his brothers to do before they actually let the groom into the house. Most tasks usually involve eating / drinking something gross, doing embarrassing stuff,etc.

I've usually laughed out loud at wedding dinners of other friends whenever I see the antics that the groom and his brothers had to put up, but nothing in this world can prepare for you this...

If memory serves me well, these were what we were supposed to do...

Upon arrival, the groom has to shout from the carpark "I love you" to the bride in 7 different languages. Us brothers needed to lend a helping hand so that the bride could actually hear this to pass this task.
Then came the apple vinegar for us to drink which tasted very sour! It's part of the 4 tastes, sourness, sweetness, bitterness and spiciness... That kinda prepped us for what was to come later...
After the apple vinegar, we had the sweet part! Bananas in caramel sauce and we had to finish everything on the plate, i.e., to drink up the caramel using straws. I could have sworn that my blood sugar levels spiked up that day.
Finally we could take the lift to the bride's flat. Upon reaching the flat, the groom had to kiss 3 of the bride's photos among many other photos of women on a piece of cardboard. Think that's easy? The groom has to be blindfolded and the cardboard's actually pasted to the ceiling of the corridor outside the flat. In the end, us brothers could not carry him all the way and one of us promptly took the cardboard down for him to kiss, much to the chagrin of the sisters. ;)
Next was the bitterness part. Blended bittergourd, which most of us felt it was quite good, much to the surprise of the sisters, who gave us more upon our request. Hah~
Then came the semmingly-impossible part. To lick a giant icecube that has the key of the house frozen in it.. Luckily we brought along a bottle of mineral water! Which helped to melt the ice slightly faster to get to the key.. but the key was a fake one!
Then the spiciness part. Pure fresh chilli paid! I helped the groom to eat most of the chilli which left me with a bad tummy and a numb tongue. Hah.
Finally we had to sing the bride's favourite song along with headbands made of flowers, hula hoops. YY had to put on a cute set of bunny ears for this. Laughter ensues.

And then we were in the house! =) It was a pretty tiring morning cos some of us brothers spent the night at YY's new place where we were supposed to discuss about the plans for the next day but ended up playing PES 2009 on PS3 instead. Well done, Sony! And we all pretty much had a couple hours' of sleep. Hopefully I can get some pics from YY for this post. If not, I'll just upload some photos I managed to take that day. =)

Much Ado about Nothing!

Just went for a play with Lily and her friends for a play at Fort Canning Park. First time for me going to an open-air play. The few times I went for a play are always at Esplanade or some theatre actually. You actually bring a mat, some wine and cheese and enjoy the show. We also da-bao Long John Silver as well. Hahahaha....

It's about the Shakespeare story and stars Adrian Pang and many other actors and actresses from SRT (Singapore Repertory Theatre) and I have to say it's not bad. Took some pictures at Fort Canning and will post them up soon.

Angels and Demons

The much anticipated film is finally here and I've watched it! I actually enjoyed this novel better than The Da Vinci Code and the same goes for the movie as well. Partly because Robert Langdon sports a better hairstyle now and he doesn't go too much into explaining every single thing in the show in detail unlike the first movie!

Overall, it's a roller coaster ride from start to end and keeps people on the edge of their seats! To those who have read the novel, you can pretty guess what's coming up next so I got to give it to the director who had to change the story a bit to make it more appealing to Dan Brown Fans, both new and old.

Catch it if you can!

Wolverine!

Thanks to my bank's rec club, i got a pair of free tickets to watch Wolverine at GV Max last Friday with Princess. We had lunch at Superdog (my first time!) and the burger (not really a fan of hotdogs) was not bad. The beef chilli cheese fries couldn't match up to Carl's Jrs, but was still decent.

Met some of my colleagues outside the cinema and exchanged greetings before heading for the cinema proper. Overall, the show's not bad but story's warped as with all franchise movies. But it's a good show if you're getting to know Wolvie for the first time. =) Hugh Jackman's great for the role with the gruff, stubborn demeanor that fans all come to love about Wolvie.

Lazy weekend again for me, typically just staying at home although we went out once with YY on Friday for some good L4D. ;)

I believe weekends can be great for going out and catching up with friends but there are those times when you really want to have a good rest at home if you had a rough week before and know another one's just round the corner...

My weekly dosage of movies this week. Too much hype but fizzled at the very end... Didn't offer much action as I have expected (I am an action movie fan..) and Clive Owen + Naomi Watts didn't really live up to my expectation as artistes.. My verdict: Do not catch this unless you are looking for something to while your time away or you really want to watch Naomi or Clive (in that order)

After the show, we went for supper at Macdonalds at Northpoint and something interesting happened. A group of juveniles were having some fun outside and 1 of them went to use the washroom. 1 other guy then promptly slotted the mop outside between the handles to lock the twin doors, trapping his friend and everybody else in it. Fortunately nobody else was going out or coming into Mac. The guy finally relented and let his friend out.

What we didn't count on happening was that once his friend was out, he put the mop back in between the doors. Nobody really noticed until Law and I looked at the only exit later. Seemed like the staff didn't realise it until I told them about it. In the end, they forced the door open and got a bent mop in return. To those inconsiderate idiots, if you think that you were trying to impress the girls in your group or you were trying to be funny, you did not. And what you did was downright childish...

Quiet Sunday for me as well.. Pretty much stayed at home to relax cos my week before was long and tiring. Typically stayed back late in office to finish up work everyday, leaving me feeling burnt out. Just played my PS3 and played cards with my sis and my bro-in-law and dinner with parents and all.

Short note here, congrats to Lawrence on being a uncle to his nephew just born on Saturday! =)

Hi all, it's been ages since I last blogged about something. You know the type of feeling / mood you get into when you just don't feel like doing anything and you just want to laze around.

Well that mood's been on and off in me these days. Been troubled by some stuff happening lately, so diverting my energy to sort them out. Well here's some updates so far...

Flew and came back from Japan a couple of weeks ago and STILL sorting through the photos. Promise to put them up on Webshots or Flickr when I finally get my a** down to do it. Great trip with 2 of my bros with me as the tour guide / translator / entertainer, etc.. And my D60 did produce some great shots compared to my previous Japan trips (at the cost of lugging the camera bag and tripod ard with me most of the time)
Bought Dynasty Warriors 6 for PS3 and it's a great game. Very different from what I've played for the other DW series. Visuals are great (It's on PS3, you know...) and the gameplay is more difficult than ever. You can get sneezed to death by peons if you're not careful...
Watched a couple of movies recently, namely Knowing and The Sniper. Both shows dun live up to the hype. The ending for Knowing is seriously disappointing and the story in the Sniper doesn't really make any sense...
Been hooked on Left 4 Dead recently, be it playing at home or at the LAN shops. The thing that separates it from the other First Person Shooter (FPS) games is that you are forced to work together to win the game unlike other games where you can effectively win the game alone if you're REALLY good. Interesting fact, girls are also playing this FPS although you can hear screams in the shop when their characters get swamped by the zombies in the game. Hah!
Have not been touching WOW for some time although I've been paying the subscription. Tried to log on this morning and I have to download and install a 740MB patch (currently at 24%). Seriously having doubts to carry on playing this game cos the amount of facts and info to play this game is massive and I simply dun have the time and energy to devote to this game.

That's all for now. It's almost 1 and I gotta grab my lunch soon before I starve to death. Peace ppl!

It's no secret that I'm a movie fan. Even my colleague who sits behind me asks me about the movie I'm going to catch each weekend. Ha~

I caught Push last week but only managed to blog about it today. It piqued my interest as it was about normal people with extraordinary abilities. It revolves around this guy who is a "Mover" who can move things with his mind or with gestures, something like telekinesis and he's supposed to save this girl from some corporation called Division. Turns out that Division is the one that injects people with these special powers and trains them as agents and the girl also has a special ability. She's called a "Pusher" who can manipulate people by feeding thoughts into their minds. Kinda scary as the show shows how people can be manipulated... There are also other types of special people in the show as well, like Bleeders (supersonic scream), Watchers (see the future), Sniffers (track people with smell from their belongings), Shadow (prevents people from being sniffed and watched to a certain extent) and many more. It's not bad as a show overall.

Supposed to meet Trina for a show but she had a gathering with her colleagues on Friday. Haven't seen her for a while and I really missed her a lot.. Crazy enough, Law, GY and I caught 2 movies last night. Dragonball evolution and Watchmen. The former, a total waste of money and the latter, the real deal!

I shall keep my review of Dragonball Evolution to the minimal. Basically, rapidly moving storyline, trying to compress the whole story into a 1h45m show is pretty bad, and Goku shouldn't be a Caucasian. Coupled with bad CG, bad jokes and normal fighting scenes spells out DISASTER.

Now sparing you the agony, let's move on to Watchmen. Wanted to catch this show ever since I saw the trailer, not that I read the comic before but the trailer just looks damn good and it touches not on the superheroes but about human nature. It also shows that superheroes aren't really that powerful as they struggle with their own personal lives.... Now i'm so game for the comic!

3 good things that happened this weekend which has made a tough week seem less unbearable.

1) Finally made my way to CYC. the Custom shop to use the privilege that Aunt Jay gave to me. Free custom shirt with a pair of complimentary cufflinks to go! Even added my own initials to it!

Didn't know that there were so many things to get a custom shirt done. Like the type of collar (5 types!), cuff type, tapered back / sides, even the buttons and button labels as well~ Will take a pic of the shirt when it's ready in 2 weeks time!

2) After CYC, GY and I went to Robertson Quay for Ichibantei for some good ramen. Ichibantei's my number 2, rivalling all but Miharu at Gallery Hotel. Supposed to bring Trina on a ramen tour in Singapore starting from my number 10 and GY has kinda tried all my top 5 ramen joints already. Haha! Will have a exclusive post of all top 10 joints (in my humble opinion) with pictures soon!

3) Finally bought a PS3 and Street Fighter 4 for myself ! Woo-Hoo! Thanks to Law for accompanying me on his off day to get it from AMK Hub. Which reminds me that I could count about 20+ plus at ATMs yesterday. Must be the GST Offset package...It's a real monster if you ask me, in terms of weight and performance.... Have been busy playing SF4 since ytd evening till just now and managed to unlock quite a few characters, including my favourite Akuma! *Satsui No Hado!*

Meeting Trina for dinner at Melt - The World Cafe next week and looking forward to it! See you! =)

Super wonderful evening!

Had dinner with Trina last evening at Pete's Place at Hyatt Regency. The last time I went there was with my aunt and uncle and Ivan many many years ago, it has pretty changed much by now but the cosy feeling is still there~

Dinner was great. Loved the sundried tomato butter with the complimentary bread ala Cafe Cartel. Had 2 soups and 2 pastas. My lasagna was great but Trina's gnocchi was a tad too cheesy for my liking. Fortunately the soups saved the day. Her carrot soup was creamy enough but not too overwhleming and my potato and leek soup contained chockfuls of the potato which made it a treat to have. =)

Went over to Paragon to check out Cova, a cafe recommended by my Japanese sensei but it was closed by the time we reached there. Settled for Coffee Bean in the end, with my Iced Latte and her Sunrise~ =)

Headed back to Lido and caught the midnight show, Slumdog Millionaire. Thought our row was fully occupied when we bought the tickets but turned out that it was almost empty throughout the whole show. The movie's definitely worth the weekend ticket price. It touches on how the protangonist was transformed from a slumdog (leaving in slums, working as a tea-boy) to a millionaire. You can try to guess how he became rich by looking closely at the poster above. (Reminds you of a television game show?) =)

Caught Changeling with Trina at GV Plaza the other day. It was funny when I collected my tickets from the counter when the staff said to me "2 tickets, 1150pm, Chain-girl-ling". I had to restrain myself from laughing out loud but it's true that nowadays movie titles get confusing and we might even pronounce the movie titles incorrectly ourselves!

It's a pretty good show with 2 thumbs up for me! And a long one as well, about 2 1/2 hours! Directed by Clint Eastwood and compelling storyline that keeps the audience on the edge of the seats. Makes you empathise with Angelina's character as well.

Do catch it soon as the movie's run is going to end soon based on the number of cinemas showing it and the odd movie times!

Went for supper at Crown Plaza 's Swensen's for Apple Crumble and Fries! Ended up going back late by cab but it was all worth it! ;)

I also caught Love Matters with Trina and her friends at Cineleisure yesterday at 1150pm! Haha~ Kinda last minute but gladly met up at Orchard at ard midnight knowing well I had to go to work tomorrow. All becuase of you~

Love Matters revolves around a family in KL with issues like love, happiness, while exploring issues of the heart all rolled into one comedy. Kudos to Yeo Yann Yann who plays the mother with a rather too convincing Malaysian accent (no offence to my Malaysian friends!)

A pity I couldn't join Trina and friends for supper / drinks and had to hop onto a cab home to grab some sleep before heading to the office. Sorry! Will make it up to you next time k? =)

Caught Inkheart last last night with Trina at AMK Hub. We kinda decided to catch a show together like 3 hours before. Kinda like a surprise but starting to enjoy these random, sudden meetups. Looks set to be like a standard Brendan Fraser movie a.k.a The Mummy Returns and the rest of the sorry sequels after that, but out of the movies available at that timing, Inkheart seemed the most sane choice.

We entered the cinema a little late but din missed too much, I guessed it kinda talked about Mortimer Folchart's (Brendan Fraser) ability to bring stories to life. Show's not too bad, a bit of dry humour here and there, Brendan's ever-emotionless-or-blur look and the baddie din get a chance to showcase his acting talent fully. The scenery from the movie however was fascinating like Brendan's (sister's or aunt's) place and where the baddie has his castle was truly breathtaking~

I did think about the story which I would want to bring to life if I was a Silvertongue like what Brendan Fraser's Character is... Tuesdays with Morrie? Da Vinci Code? LOL

Overall it's not bad, sets u up for an adventure but ending is a little disappointing. After that we had a walk-around and I was amazed to find that NTUC Fairprice Extra was actually open at 1.30am! With people still doing their CNY / grocery shopping! Not sure whether it was because of the festive period or they REALLY open till that late.... WOW~

Had a chance to hop on a short ride on Trina's Coke Van which was kinda cool if you asked me! =) Maybe it's the CNY weekend but feeling really happy for the first time this year so far~

Seven Pounds and Red Cliff II

Seven Pounds is a touching story about how Will Smith sets out to help 7 strangers in difficult circumstances out of his way. Shall not reveal the reason behind doing so cos that's the part that really matters...

Always like catching his shows because the scripts he chooses are not just for block-busters, eye candy but that there are usually stories that captures the human soul and makes audiences realise that there's more to life than it really is. Do catch it while you can!

Also caught Red Cliff II (Sorry Val!) with GY and Ivan at the Cathay. Cathay's been one of my fav places to catch partly because they have great seats and there's my fav adidas store as well. The staff there kinda know me by now because of my frequent visits. Heh~

Red Cliff II's a great finisher to the first part which I'm sure left people wanting their money back after seeing "To be continued..." at the end. This is where all the action comes in, with generals pitting their wits against each other. (The bet between Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu is quite interesting). Putting the warping of the original story aside, the plot's decent for a newbie to The Three Kingdom Classics, but now i'm sure these classics have certainly gained more fans than before, till they find out that the movie's different from the actual story!

Alas.. 2009...

Just woke up feeling woozy cos I got back home about 3am the morning of Xmas from Ivan's friend's place and caught like 4-5 hrs of sleep before waking up and preparing for the party at home. Basically invited my buddies and some colleagues over to my place and I'm cookin'!

Headed over to Cold Storage about 930 to grab some chicken, pork knuckle and some ribs (Law's fav) then had breakfast at Mac's (it's been a while since I last had Mac bfast!) before heading home and prepared the food.

1130h

Thanks to GY and Law for coming over early to help me with the preparation! (Law cutting up the BBQ-ed food, GY for cutting up mushrooms,etc) Haven't really cooked for some time but glad it turned out fine!

1330h

Other buds arrived at 130+ and played PS3 (thanks Law!) and Wii before tucking in. Food's great and as usual, way too much!

1830h

GY had to leave and the rest hung around to play Betrayal at House on the Hill. It's an engaging game to play and has kept me hooked for some time! SL later popped by to join in as well. =)

New Year's Eve (NYE) Party

Took half a day off and headed home. Thought of catching some sleep but found myself bumming around, packing up my Wii and other board games and by the time I took a shower, it was almost time to head down to Ash's place!

1630h

Arrived at Ash's place and wasn't surprised to see Yiliang there cos he stays a stone's throw away. Zhexian also arrived about the same time as well. Been hearing that he'll be bringing some salmon to cook and got me real excited.

Helped to carry the tables, chairs, BBQ pit, set up the tables, helped carry the food out before finally taking a quick rest and freshen up before the rest of the guests arrive.

This was when the majority of the guests started streaming in. Mostly YCK ppl and some of Ash's frens whom I have met before for CNY last year.

Food was absolutely great esp Zhexian's salmon and Ash's mom's tiramisu (Can I have more please, Auntie?) And Samuel, the fried rice was quite nice, honestly speaking. We joked that it sucked, alright? ;)

Some ppl asked me what I brought (it was a potluck) and when I said Wii, people started turning their eyes up... and later caught them having a great time playing the Wii... LOL

Had Bingo later! Everybody had to pay a buck to buy a card and winner takes all! I was the MC at Ash's request and it was quite fun! Congrats to Ash's friend and Dingren for winning!

More of Wii later and some of the people left early to go for Night Cycling before the countdown. So did many couples as well. Such's the usual stuff. In the end, there were only a handful of us for the actual countdown and we all watched the TV and countdown-ed with Gurmit and Gang.

Shortly after, we had a gift exchange but some of the people who brought presents had left early but we still managed to get it sorted out in the end. Only Zhexian, Yiliang and me and Weihao were the only survivors till about 3am when Ash gave me and Yiliang a ride home. Thanks Ash dear!

Amy, Helen and YH celebrated my birthday yesterday at Sun and Moon dining @ Central yest night and the food was good! Pics to come soon~

My team and other colleagues (Thanks ya'll!) in my office had a mini celebration today in the office for me as well and I'm still waiting for the photos from Simon... Where are they?!?!?!?!

And i just came back from another celebration, this time with my YCK friends, organised by Ashlyn! A big thank you! We queued up at Marche @ VIVO for an hour before deciding to go to Modestos instead~ A sample of some pics below.... Rest are on Facebook or in the album below!

It's a famous phrase in the science fiction world apparently... and it's used as a "safe-word" by the protagonist (Keanu Reeves) to prevent the human race from being eradicated, Just caught this with Ivan and GY. It's not an action packed movie but it's rather thought provoking. The storyline's like protect-the-earth-else-aliens-will-come-to-destroy-us, which are similar to other movies that I've watched before... But Jennifer Connelly is HOT! :)

- Law leaving for Hainan Island in 5 hours time and GY might be searching online for place s he wanna visit...

- Not yet...maybe soon

Prepare to send Xmas, New Year cards (Yes I still do that... but to a select few who actually bother to return)
- Am not going to send this year actually and see how many people actually send them to me. Hehe...

This week was pretty OK for me! Attended training at Marina Mandarin Hotel on Monday and Tuesday and I gotta say that the training was good, fellow trainees were great and the food was marvelicious! And I think I kinda put on a bit of weight during those 2 days. Morning Tea + Buffet Lunch + Afternoon Tea = Not good for body....

Was helping Law to fix his com sound problem on Thursday and Friday. Apparently, nVidia GeForce 8800 does not sit well with Creative X-Fi Sound cards.. nVidia blames Creative, Creative blames nVidia... (Just look at the forums!) and Law's contemplating a change of sound card if we can't fix it. But he bought a PS3 yesterday for Fallout 3! O_O

I've only played Fallout 1 which is a pretty good IMHO. But Fallout 3 looks great from the pics and gameplay trailer! Prob going over to his place tomorrow to take a look and marvel at the beast they call PS3... Lugging around the PS3 last night, we went to Bugis to catch Madagascar 2.

Not as funny as the previous one but I'm just there for the penguins! Who cares about Alex (the lion), Marty (the zebra), Melman (the giraffe) and Gloria (the hippo)! Penguins are way funny and devilishly evil (keep your eyes peeled for the Dreamworks SKG part at the start of the movie!)

I'm giving it 3 out of 5 in general cos some parts just kept me laughing! And I haven't caught Bond yet despite the reviews from friends!

Nanjya Monjya

As Monday was a holiday, my Japanese classmates and I decided to head down to Nanjya Monjya for dinner. This came a bit late cos I was way too tired to blog after a week of work in the office....

Monjyayaki is a type of Japanese food where you have the ingredients mixed and pour them out on a hot plate to stif today and make the pancake. 1st time round, we (actually just me) made a whole mess out of the table and had to call in the waiter to show us how to make monjyayaki properly. Then we ordered another one and I had a second go which kinda turned out ok! =)

Anyway, the food was great and it helps that there was a promotion at that time. 50% discount for monjyayaki!

People who are interested, they're located at the Waterfront Plaza beside Grand Copthorne Hotel at Havelock Road. Take bus 16 or 175 from Orchard Boulevard and alight after 5 stops.

GY sent us this sms once about some anime fest going on and asking us to register for a free screening of an animated film yesterday. Venue: Fusionpolis (?!!?!?!!)

We went to Holland V for dinner and I recommended the place that my colleague brought us to for a team dinner. Essential Brews's the name. It's a tea-themed diner with tea-infused foods gracing the menu (Earl Grey Ribeye Steak, anyone?) We kinda enjoyed the food there except for GY who was not really satisfied with his Matcha Catch (Dory with Green Tea). Pics of our main courses below. (GY's one wasn't worth taking... LOL)

We caught a cab and headed down to Fusionpolis. Looks pretty futuristic and excellent breath-taking architecture. It's a animated film (not anime) based on a new game from Electronic Arts called Dead Space and it's about the massacre of a crew on a ship that's transporting some mysterious artifact to Earth. Apparently the artifact's attracting the aliens and people can go hysterical because of the artifact... Wasn't really fantastic but it's free, so who's complaining?

After that, we had our cuppa coffee at Starbucks @ Fusionpolis and decided to go to Pitstop where we played till the wee hours of the morning~ Some random photos I took below

Even though, my sis watched this show before I did and told me it was just 'OK', I still decided to give it a try, dragging GY and Law along for the ride as well. Best thing about it is you dun even know what's the movie about.

Golden rule of mine: NEVER, EVER read or trust reviews cos they're subjective...

Could guess it's a comedy (Ben Stiller, Jack Black) but Robert "Iron Man" Downey Jr making an appearance as well as a black? Woo.... In a nutshell, actors trying to act out a war movie but director senses there's no realism at all so he throws them in the middle of the jungle in Vietnam and "attempts" to film a "real war movie". Actors fending for their lives = Laughter.

Look out for a special guy who also acts in the movie and does a corny dance and some people could only recognize him when the credits were reeling~

If you want a good luff, here's the right movie for ya!

Yes, it's ture. According to a new friend of mine, i'm a movie fan~ Hah! Caught the 2 movies over the weekend. 20th Century Boys is like watching a manga (Japanese comic) brought to life. Was pretty amused by it and pretty liked the time when the main characters were children. Brought back fond memories for me when I was young too. It's the winning script for a nationwide manga script competition and it's only the 1st of a trilogy. Can't wait for the next 2 to come!

Max Payne was a show that wowed us when we were watching the trailer but the actual show kinda sucked. Pointless storyline, not much of the bullet time that was the main attraction of the computer game. Coupled with Mark Wahlberg's expressionless face, it just bores the hell outta you. Fortunately the CG effects and the whoop-ass sound system in the Grand Cathay saved it...

Hort Park

Decided to use the holiday on last Wednesday to visit Hort Park. Haven't been to it since it opened and was praying that it didn't rain as well. GY tagged along with his camera too and me with my trusty Nikon.

Reached Vivo at about 3+, got the tickets to Eagle Eye before making our way by bus to Hort Park. For people interested to go, you can board any of these buses (61, 93, 100, 166, 963) from the Vivo bustop and alight after you pass by the bridge below near Hyderabad Road.

We left the park about 5.30 and went to Vivo to meet Ivan for dinner at Modestos! One of my favourite Italian restaurants in town. That would explain why the last 3 pictures in the album didn't look like they're from Hort Park cos they're from Modestos instead.. Hah~

Caught Eagle Eye at Vivo at GV Max and we were lucky to get decent seats. The show's pretty good, considering it was produced by good ol' Steven Spielberg. Story and action scenes are great and it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats as the story unfolds.

Recommending to catch it on the big screen if you can!

My modest weekend

Haven't been blogging for a while cos getting kinda lazy but get my butt down to type some random stuff in here now and then.

Went to SL's fren's place for board games on Saturday and ended up spending almost the whole day there but it was fun considering we played 4-5 games and had a whale of a time. Plus caught the F1 show at her place as well.

Almost had tickets to watch the qualifying race but my other cousin took it from my uncle instead. Drats.... All I can say that the drivers must be cursing Singapore for the make-shift circuit and tricky bends to make Monaco look like a walk in the park...Was hoping for Felipe Massa to win but looks like Hamiliton and Alonso are in the lead with Massa's pitstop boo-boo...

Today was great. Woke up feeling a bit better then Wow-ed a bit to get my warlock to reach level 69 (1 more level to go!) Then went playing pool with Law and GY (after some time of pool inactivity) Got off to a rough start but managed to win most of my games today! Headed to Bugis Junction to tuck into Swensens' for the 1 for 1 Sundae promotion. Thanks to Kogi for forwarding the voucher to me! And all of us agreed that the sweet Malay girl serving us was quite pretty. Ha.

Planning to visit HortPark on Wed if weather goes well and I'm going to use my D60 in an attempt to take a few good shots. Saw the Nikon D90 ad on TV and winced. Should have waited...

Finally back from my whirlwind trip to HK. Just happened to decide to go there on the fly to visit a few friends and to do some sightseeing~

A quick summary of my itinerary for the past 4 days~

Day 1:

Arrived at abt 2pm and made my way (the wrong, long way) to the hotel. Ended up paying a bit more extra but took in more sights instead. Not too bad actually. My hotel's (Stanford Hong Kong) located smack right in the middle of Mongkok 旺角 and it's close to Ladies' Street!

After checking out the room and washing up a bit, walked all the way from Mongkok to Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) which took me close to 2 hours considering my leisurely pace. Finally arrived at the Avenue of Stars and busy taking snapshots of the pavements with the stars' handprints and signatures.

Finally the Symphony of Lights came on slightly after 8 where the many buildings along Victoria Harbour participated in the multimedia light display which was actually kinda disappointing....

Sat down for a cuppa ice coffee before making my way back to my hotel by MTR. Walked along Ladies Market to check out the stuff before buying them on the last day and tucked into a nice bowl of noodles for supper before heading back. Mmm!

Things to note:

1) Plan your journey carefully to reduce cost when switching from Airport Express to MTR.
2) Get an Octopus Card as soon as you touch down. It can be used on all modes of transport in HK (except taxis) and for purchases at 7-11! Cool!
3) HKers keep to the right on the escalator unlike us here in Singapore. I got "tsk"ed so many times until I realised it. Ouch~

Day 2:

Alice, my lovely colleague from the HK office came to pick me up at my hotel in the morning! Brought me for some v nice and cheap dim sum nearby. It was pretty interesting to see Alice washing the teacups and chopsticks with the hot tea / water before we ate. I took it for granted and almost digged in before she stopped me. Took the MTR to Central then a bus to Stanley Market for sightseeing and shopping. Journey took about 30 mins or so by bus and she had to take some sweets to prevent herself from being carsick.

Finally arrived and took a short walk before stopping for a break at Macdonalds for a rest. It was super hot that day (33 degrees!) I din buy anything in the end and we headed back to Central for the tram up to Victoria Peak.

Passed by my bank's office building and Alice told me about how to enter the building when i come visiting the next day. It's so talllllllll as you can see in my photos...

Got the combo which included the tram ride 2 ways, Madame Tussad's Wax Museum entry and entrance to the Sky Terrace (great for photo taking, it was free the last time I went!) All in all, about 34 bucks per person which wasn't too bad. Tram ride was not bad as I took it before when I visited HK 11 years ago (yes that's a long long long time ago)

First time to Madame Tussad's for me! Alice's first time there as well! We were lucky that we went on a weekday so there weren't many people around and we didn't have to queue to take photos with the wax mannequins. Best time to hug celebrities who you might never get to meet the rest of your life (Ayumi, Angelina Jolie, Charlene Choi, Kelly Chen) and for the gals (Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai, Brad Pitt, Bae Yong Jun) After that we finally went onto the Sky Terrace where it was packed to the brim. People were jostling for a spot near the edge to get a good shot of the night view. >_<

We left before 8 cos people were waiting for the disappointing symphony of lights and we din want to squeeze in with the rest on the way down the peak. Alice had reserved a table for us at a nice restaurant at Beijing No. 1 building (北京道一号) called Chao Inn（潮楼) at TST. We took a ferry from Central Pier to TST Pier which was quite cheap and fun! The restuarant looked very classy and very expensive... Tried some interesting food there and got a great view of Victoria Harbour as well. In the end, the dinner came to about 30+ per person which was quite reaonsable! Thanks Alice! After a fun filled day, it was back to my hotel for zzz...

Things to note:

4) Best time to go for dim sum is about 10 before the aunties finish their morning marketing.
5) Always wash your teacups and chopsticks before you eat. That's why they provide a pot of hot water for you... (Nah, not really...)
6) When visiting Victoria Peak, go in the evening when you can get great views befoer and after turns dark.
7) If you have a tripod for your camera, bring it. NO matter how heavy it is. Cos there's nothing worse than taking night shots with your trembling unsteady hands. I only managed to take 3 pics which were barely passable...>_<

Day 3:

Off to Wan Chai by MTR to go to the HK Convention Centre to visit the Golden Bauhinia (金紫荆) Square and the Reunification Monument. It was a foggy and hot day and had to walk like 4 blocks down from the MTR to the monuments... then took one of those ancient trams to Cheung Kong Center where my bank's located at.

Popped by to visit my colleagues who I usually contact but never really knew how they looked like! Haha~ View's from the office really super nice and I only took a couple of pics because I didn't want to look like an idiot in the office. Caught up with my other colleagues and they brought me to a nice dim sum place called King of the Kings (皇上皇) nearby. Thanks Ken for the treat!

Headed to Tung Chung by MTR for a cable car ride to Lantau Island to visit the Big Buddha (天坛大佛). Cable Car's pretty nice but a bit expensive (about $18 Sing) but view's all worth it. Arrived at Ngong Ping village, an ancient Chinese themed village with many shops littered along the streets. They have Starbucks there as well.. >_< Passed on the "Walking with Buddha" and "Monkey Tales" shows and headed straight for the Po Lin Monastery and the Big Buddha. It was scorching that day and walking up the 15 flights of stairs to the Buddha Statue was a feat for me. I need to work out more.... The view from the top was exhilarating! (and the Pocari Sweat sold up there was more expensive than the ones down the stairs, evil buggers...) Back to Kowloon by Cable Car and train and went to Causeway Bay to have a look around. Walked along Times Sqaure and Causeway Plaza 1 and 2 before stopping for a quick dinner in one of the small diners. Don't be afraid about the food cos you'll never know how delicious the food can be until you try it!

Back to hotel at about 12.30am for sleep.

Things to note:

8) While visting the Golden Bauhinia Square and Reunification monument, be sure to find out where the covered walkway is from the MTR. I only found that on my RETURN trip... But i did manage to walk through the Arts centre and the museum along the way.
9) Do try out the other types of transportation in HK other than the MTR like the trams and ferries. Route maps are available at every tram stop and ferry's pretty straight forward.
10) Dim Sum restaurants only accept reservations at lunch time, if not too bad... Book early to avoid disappointment
11) When you're in HK, do try out the local cuisine at small diners instead of eating at Mac, Western joints. The staff understand Mandarin and can speak a little English to get by.

Day 4:

Had a bit of time before my flight, so I went to Admiralty for some last minute shopping and food before back to hotel. Anyone tried you tiao wrapped with chee cheong fun?

Reached the airport pretty early and had a quick meal before some last minute shopping and back to Singapore!

Things to note:

12) You can check in at major stations or do the Self-check in at the airport, saving you lotsa time at the airport!

Not just a usual day but it's my first day of leave for the whole year! YES! Since 2007! *ROAR*

Planned to go ride on the Singapore Flyer with SL and praying it doesn't rain on that day! Considering it has been raining every day last week...

All was well! Bright and sunny! So we made our way down *the lnog way* by walking from Esplanade to the Flyer. For people going in future, there's a free shuttle service from the Bus stop between The Adelphi and St. Andrew's Cathedral every 30 mins. Please use that instead..

Pretty excited but I was only armed with my Ixus 50. Had planned to get my DSLR before that but wouldn't want to risk bringing a better camera and not really knowing how to get the best out of it. Hah!

Note to others: don't bother paying twice the price for express boarding cos you'll get to go onto the cabin first but still share it with others who paid for normal. Unless there's a looooooong queue for normal and you've got the urge to ride it before everyone else. Else, just stick to the queue alright?

Almost everybody went snap-happy once we were on board, including yours truly as well! My album below tells it all~

The ride's just fine. It moves so slowly that you won't realise when you're at the top till they announce "You're now at a height of blah-blah metres..." Ride takes approx 30 mins so you get to enjoy the view around. Too bad my discounted ticket is only available for use from 830am to 6pm. Best time to go would be actually slightly after 6 as the evening sun shouldn't be that distracting anymore. Well at least better than getting cooked at 3pm in there...

Went for Baikohken Ramen after that and YY joined us as well. My no. 4 favourite! but i guess YY din really like his ramen, he ordered the half size one without the char siew... poor carnivore...

Pitstop! Met up with GY and Ivan for a night of fun and games! Pompeii, No thanks and Imaginiff were those we played! LOL. =)

7th August, Kuriya:

A few of us met up for dinner at Raffles City and headed down to Kuriya cos Val was craving for some japanese charcoal BBQ food (we din get any of that sort though...)

But we did manage to get a sumptous dinner! Drool on ahead~

Had dinner with Agnes and her friends after work and decided to introduce them to Shimbashi Soba, basement 1, Paragon. Friday night's the usual and we had to wait for abotu 15-20 mins before getting seats but it was all worth it (according to them)!

Had a team dinner at MOF @ Marina Square and it's my 3rd time back to this place. I usually go there for desserts only cos they look good and taste good, but my first for trying their main dishes, which didn't disappoint me...

It's a habit now, the 4 of us (Law, GY, Ivan and me) catching a movie together over the weekend in town. Hah~

This time we chose the Mummy cos there weren't any other shows that we were interested in anyway. We had dinner at this noodle place at the basement of the Cathay. Forgot what's the name but the noodles and the sliced pork with buns were simply delicious! Gotta go back some day and eat again.

Before the show, I stopped by the adidas store to take a look at some watches there and there was one that caught my eye! At 115 and it looked really nice.... But thinking about my HK trip in Sep soon... =(

Finally caught the show at about 10 and 5th row from the front at the Grand Cathay isn't that bad. Show's typical, easily amused, easily forgettable... Dun think i'll be catching the next installment if there's any... Ha!

Why So Serious?

It's finally here! And I went to watch with my usual kakis (GY, Law, Ivan) at the usual place (PS) last Saturday. The show is a bit long but it was quite entertaining.

The story's dark as Batman examines himself and finds the will to carry on fighting evil as the Dark Knight. The show also introduces another villain into the future story but I shan't spoil it here. Fans will definitely know who Harvey Dent is...

But the one that truly shines here is the Joker... Played by the late Heath Ledger, he brings the character very much into life. If he creeps you out in the show, he's done the job good. Can't wait for the next instalment of the show! The Dark Knight (only show with no "Batman" in the title) gets 4 stars out of 5 from me!

Went to see the doctor this morning cos I wasn't able to recover in time... Hoping that there won't be a long queue at the clinic but then again, it's Monday morning.

2 mothers with their entourage of 5 children in total were making hella of noise in there. The mothers were talking really loudly about their children's tuition and stuff like that as if it was at the market and the children were screaming and jumping even though they were supposed to be ill...

3 of the children were particularly spoilt and whiny who went "Mi.... (mother)" whenever they get into a fight or quarrel and were running around, disturbing the other patients. Glares from other patients at the clinic didn't help. And all that the mom could do was to keep on reading her magazine and throw out a few words like "stop playing", "keep quiet" and the children would talk back at her and carry on clamouring...

During my time, I would have received a tight slap or a beating from my parents for behaving like that in public. Children these days...

Finally got to see the doc after 45 mins and i'm still on MC for today and tomorrow.. Feeling aching all over. On and off fever... Dry throat... Restlessness.. Lethargy.. It's almost like a living hell....

This post came very late as I caught the movie with GY, Law and Ivan last Sunday. Managed to get tickets real late on Sunday at Marina Square. Had dinner at Kyo-nichi Ramen which was shiok~ It's my number 7 on my list. Hah~ No pictures though, too hungry to take any.

And before the movie, we were wandering around the cinema (waiting for GY) and I chanced upon a figurine shop which I've never entered in before and I got this!

L Nendroid! Comes with 2 bodies (squatting or standing) and 4 faces! With Leather armchair as well! Sold out at most places I've been to and I'm lucky to have found it~

Movies's not too bad. Average but mildly entertaining. Doesn't actually live up to the hype and the ending was abit crappy. But nonetheless, something decent to catch these days.

Anyway, I've been real sick these past few days and had to stay in the office cos my other colleague was out with stomach flu as well (Hope you're better already!) and the fact that I'm blogging right now at 11:44am is that I'm on medical leave and had a good night's rest last night!

Hopefully I've recovered in time over the weekend and back at work next Monday!

On another note, I had dinner on Tuesday with a new friend of mine whom I've met at the Japanese meetup. Ramen lovers, both of us. We went to Central to tuck into a bowl of Aka-Ramen at Marutama Ramen! My number 3! Not bad as a Ramen fix for me. I have to have ramen at least once a week somewhere, you see... After that we had some Hokkaido Ice cream from Azabu Sabo to round up the dinner. Strange new flavours I sampled were tofu and pumpkin! Tofu tasted... like tofu and pumpkin was amazingly sweet~

Get Wanted!

Once again, 2 shows in one weekend. *Looks at smothering hole in wallet* But it was worth it! 2 great shows, 1 is pure slapstick comedy, other is full of adrenalin and action!

Both shows are quite similar actually. Male lead is a cannot-make-it, bully-target, low-life guys. The gals on the other hand, are smart, clever and so so gorgeous. Va-va-voom~ Both shows showcase some very nifty gadgets, especially the one Angelina Jolie used in the supermarket. Think SAF is kinda using it now but not as skillful as her..

Unfortunately, i watched both shows during the late night so my viewing experience was really at the max. At times I was struggling to keep to the story / laugh at the jokes.

Brain: Hey, it's funny! Laugh!

Body: Can't... Too shag already...

But do catch these shows before they're gone!

On Sunday, I went to the Science Centre (not the Omnimax or Snow City) with Princess. She happened to have 3 tickets with her and her bro and sis weren't interested. She asked me at like 2pm and we were there at 4. Hah~

It's been a while since I went to the Science Centre itself. And it was nice for Princess to show me around. She worked there before at the shop. So cool right?

Dinosaurs were the main exhibit and we spent some time taking photos of them. LOL~

Night cycling!

It's been a while since I went to East Coast Park to cycle and I just came back from a 20km night cycling activity organised by my bank's Recreation Club!

The 35 of us broke up into 2 groups and I started off in the 1st. We travelled via Siglap Park connector all the way to Bedok Reservoir Park, had a short break, went on to Bedok Food Centre for supper but the famous Cheng Tng stall was closed! -_-

Then headed back to ECP via Bedok Park connector. Even passed by Bedok Camp~ All in all, we took about 4 hours (including stops and rests) The only thing that bothered me was that we had to get off our bikes quite often to push along the overhead bridge and had to carry the bikes for some of the stairs as well. In fact, the only thing that's hurting right now are not my feet and butt (from the sitting) but my arms instead! Hah~

The whole activity went on smoothly with no accidents! And I also got to know a few more people in the bank, those I worked with b4 (but never met them) and other new colleagues as well.

Kudos to the organisers, Terra Outdoors for having humorous and fun instructors to guide us along the way. And to the Rec Club as well, for organising and looking forward to the next activity! Cheers!

The Happening Panda!

That's what you get when you cross Kungfu Panda and The Happening!

Caught both shows over the weekend and there's a great constrast in both movies. Kungfu Panda was great, entertaining and funny! The Happening, on the other hadn, i think M Night Shyamalan has lost the plot....

In summary, Kungfu Panda's about a panda who dares to dream and fulfills it, fights off a powerful foe and saves the village in swashbuckling panda fashion!

The Happening's about a biology teacher (an emotionless Mark Wahlberg) trying to escape from the wrath of plants! *gasp* Plants can release some toxins to make humans commit suicide. Quite a dark plot but it was kinda interesting to see how people kill themselves. Not that I revel in the blood and gore though...

Panda's worth watching at the movies with young or old, and the Happening's a total waste of time. If you really want to catch it, get the DVD (or VCD) then....

Swish! Crack!

Yeah~ Caught Indy Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (that's quite a mouthful!) on its opening day (last sunday) in singapore!

My blardy sis tried to ruin it for me by almost giving away spoilers. *ROAR* Luckily she didn't if not....

Lotsa hype about the show,mostly wanting to see how an old geezer can survive an action show like this.. Come to think about it, it's like the revival of the 80's Action Heroes! Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4.0, Rambo, Indy Jones....

The pace of the story was ok but it was quite interesting to see Indy Jones giving pointers about the kid (Shia Lebouf) about treasure hunting~ And how Indy Jones call the kid Junior like how his dad (Sean Connery) called him in the previous Indy shows.

All was fine except for the ending which was duh............. Anyway, for folks out there who want to catch the show, might as well get the DVD instead. If can rent, better... Haha~

I should start a movie rating system soon (popcorn baskets?)! LOL

YCK Reunion

We had our reunion event at YCK Gardens MINDS School yesterday as the school is moving to its new premises at Sengkang next week.. So it's kinda like the last chance to see the school as it is right now before it's torn down or redeveloped...

Haven't really come down to YCK lately so thought I'll lend a hand to set up this event by invitation from xian²~ I was tasked with setting up of the games for the event but ended up becoming co-event manager together with Roland and Shaoqiang. Had to stand in as DJ as well for Weihao / Yiliang at times as well. Quite tiring but fun actually!

So we had a carnival (complete with 8 stalls for the trainees to have some fun), an angklong performance by the students from xian²'s school, a video presentation made by Yiliang, a sumptous feast and a group photo taking session!

It was also a good time to catch up with the senior volunteers who took time off to grace the event as well.

At the end of it all, I was too winded up that I left while they were clearing up the resource room and couldn't join them for dinner. Sorry guys!

Friday:

Went for my once-every-6-weeks (any short term for that length of time?) review at the National Skin Centre. To those out there who are clueless, I have this incurable skin problem since 15 and have been visiting the National Skin Centre for the past 12 years or so...

I don't dread the visits, cos there are the friendly staff who recognize you and call out to you, ask about you, joke with you as well. All that makes it somehow more bearable each time. During my visit a couple of days ago, I was greeted and chatted with from my arrival at the centre till the time I left. =)

After that, I met Agnes for dinner after she knocked off. She was one of the staff nurses I befriended at the centre and we hit it off pretty well from the start. Always hurling friendly insults at each other kinda helped... haha~

Headed down to Waraku @ Starhub Centre. First remark from her: "So ulu ah?" Me: -_-

It's her first time to Waraku actually (She went to the Pasta de Waraku, which I patiently explained to her that they serve different food) and we feasted on a pretty good dinner! Pics below~

Met Ash for dinner at Din Tai Fung at J8 earlier today. DTF's my choice of la mian. Crystal Jade's for their side dishes and Imperial Treasure get the kudos for their xiao long bao. Yeah~ The "Holy Trinity"....

IRON MAN!

Caught this show during my company's Rec Club movie event at Eng Wah Suntec on May Day.(yes, this post is very late!) Met up with YH and her 2 friends for a speedy lunch before rushing to the cinema for the show! Food Republic at Suntec is quite expensive! A plate of chicken rice with the normal servings you can find at a coffeeshop cost $5+! :o

Met lotsa of my colleagues, especially those from my department at the cinema before we entered the halls.

I gotta admit that I didn't have much expectation of the show when they make an attempt from print to screen. Some turned out fine like X-men and Superman but others like Hellboy and Fantastic Four were err....

Great that they sticked to the original colours but they kinda tweaked the original story to make it more appealing to the movie audience and kinda made Tony Stark look soft with the morals-dilemna thingy but apart from that, graphics and sound make it look great.

Favourite scenes were when he was testing his prototype of his Iron Man suit and the scene when he was putting on the suit for the 1st time. Ultra cool and every engineer's wet dream come true! Heh~

Not really a must-see for me, but go watch it to satisfy your curiousity about this superhero who seemed dwarfed by other high-profile superheroes (Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc). In fact he's a combination of all 3 actually, very very rich (Batman), has a weakness (Superman) and very very smart-ass (Spiderman)

After YH had to go back to office to clear some stuff, I took off for home and had a good rest! And off to the plains of Durotar in WoW for more action....

About WoW, my left elbow is aching now thanks to the non-stop action over the weekend.

Kuriya~

This post is also quite late, considering I went to Kuriya on tuesday.. Have this bad habit on updating my blog late these days... Oops.. But better late than never!

Supposed to meet wh, ash and ml for dinner on tuesday but wh was still down with fever and then there were 3. We met at Raffles City for dinner and something phenomenonal happened. I met 7 friends there in the space of 40 mins while waiting for ash and ml to come. :O

When ash and ml came, we were off to Kuriya at basement 1. Kuriya means kitchen in Japanese actually. It's been a long time since I went to Kuriya cos

1. hardly go to raffles city nowadays.
2. Kuriya is damn expensive.
3. Usually would go for my favourite ramen shops rather than a Japanese restuarant. ;)

We were settled down quickly and spent quite a long time checking out the place before deciding what to have for dinner. Nice posh interior with somehow not-so-bright lighting. When we entered, we were greeted by a collection of fresh fish which we could choose to have half grilled and half in sashimi.Tempted to try but it was a tad too expensive. Note to self: Shall try it next time. I decided on the Sansai Tempura Soba set which contained chilled soba noodles with some vegetable tempura on the side. ash ordered Sansai Soba that contained oh-so-juicy looking mushroom and I heard the soup was great from both ash and ml! ml ordered the tempura soba seiro with prawn tempura on top of the vegetable tempura.

Other stuff we ordered were the Soba Tea (tea made from buckwheat leaves, which tasted quite refreshing), assorted tempura = salmon, tuna (yes!), swordfish, soft shell crab handroll for ml, and icecream for dessert. Total damage: $140 out of which 60 bucks are mine! hah~

All was fun cept for the travelling part when we almost took 1 whole day to reach Tioman itself. zzz.. But thanks to Cuili for organising such a wonderful trip! :)

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Woke up early today for one of the events organised by my bank's Recreation Club. Off to Sungei Buloh we go! I've only been there but it was a long time ago....

It looked to be a good day to visit the reserve. Sunny, not too hot and din look like it was going to rain like how these few days were....

First off, we were divided into 2 groups where we were brought around the mangrove area via a boardwalk route and we had a nice, chirpy guide to introduce to us the mangrove and wonders behind it. Rare chance for a city boy like me to see monitor lizards, tree climbing crabs, huge spiders, horseshoe crabs, a collared kingfisher up close, you know? :P

After that, we rested for lunch and carried on a treasure-hunt style activity where we had to explore the reserve to find answers to 27 questions. Good way to have you explore and admire the flora and fauna available in the mangrove habitat. It got a tad too hot later but didn't deter our trek at all~

In the end, my team (Me, Tun Naung, Mary (Tun Naung's girlfriend), Lu Xin, Xiaoting (Lu Xin's friend) won 4th price with a score of 24/27. Got a bundle of Toberone 1 by 1 chocs for that. Not bad eh?

Fortunately, after the last photo was taken outside the reserve, it began to pour! Lucky us~

Waraku + Santouka

Had dinner at Central twice this week. Once with Helen, Amy and Yihui at Wakaru! One of my favourite Japanese family restuarant which never fails to satisfy my gourmet tendencies each time. Ordered my favourite Rindo (Katsu don + Zaru Udon + Soba). =)

Yihui came later as she was stuck in office till about 8+ but still decided to join us nevertheless! We got a window seat fortunately and was able to enjoy the night view at Clarke Quay. Took some random pics below. Enjoy~

The next day, I went to try Ramen Santouka on the 2nd floor of Central. It just opened this year and one of my frens had said that it's not bad! The ramen hails from Asahikawa, Hokkaido which I've been there before to try the Japan No. 1 Shio Ramen! So expectations were high, and hoping it could displace one of my top 10 ramen restaurants in Singapore..

I ordered a Miso ramen set with Cha Han (fried rice) and my colleague ordered a Shio Ramen with Ikura don (Salmon Roe) set. Plus some gyoza as well. +1 for the nice simple decor and another +1 for the pretty waitress who speaks very fluent Japanese. Think her name is Emily (reading katakana has never been my forte...) I only uploaded those pics which were clear enough as I used my phone to take those photos below. I think the reso's not too bad for a 3.2 MP camera, eh?

Verdict: The Komi-tamago (lava egg) was delicious, not too salty and leaving a sweet aftertaste in the mouth even after some time. The noodles were an utter disappointment. In contrast to the thick, springy noodles available around, the noodles were bland and very thin. Unable to soak up the wholesome goodness of the soup, it just pales in comparison. Luckily, the soup saves the day for the ramen. Miso had the right proportion of saltiness and the amount of oil added to the it was just nice. The soup from the Shio Ramen, didn't taste too salty as well. :) I would give it 6 out of 10 and might come back another day.

To those who want to try, they do not take reservations and only accepts cash so be prepared.

Tiring but enjoyable weekend!

Went for my company's Recreation Club event at Science Centre and Snow City last Saturday and it was quite fun! Went to watch Mummies at the Omnimax (Soooo long since I last watched Omnimax!) The show was pretty ok, think the kids might find it boring... Then on to Snow City! where my colleagues and I had so much fun sliding down the slope~ Heh! Also I met Chen Xiuhuan at Snow City! V tall and still so beautiful even though she's in the same era as Zoey Tay, I think? Wanted to get a photo with her but gave up in the end cos she was too busy talking to her friends... After that, I made my own way to LeisurePark Kallang. My favourite hobby shop, La Tendo shifted a couple of months back from Sunshine Plaza down at Middle Road to Kallang. Pretty ulu leh! Although Stadium MRT station is being built beside it right now, but now gotta travel by bus from Orchard to there. It was its' first birthday celebration and offered a 10 bucks voucher for all members to be used only for that weekend! Din play to buy anything until I was in for a surprise when I saw Tifa from FF7!

It was sold out the very first day it arrived in SG and i regretted not pre-ordering it earlier.... but lucky me managed to get the last copy cos some bugger ordered and din collect it for a month already. :P Haha! I also ordered Yuffie, Vincent and Red XIII (+ Cait Sith) for the next collection coming in June!

Super pleased with my steals for the day, went back home a happy man~ No programs that night, so stayed at home and rotted away, but also enjoyed a video call with one of my friends late at night. Apparently, video calls between M1 to M1 are free for 1st 5 minutes~

That was Saturday.

Sunday, morning woke up at 8 (v early on Sunday for the 1st time!!!!) and met up with my friend to bring her Japanese host family around Sentosa and Vivocity. Good weather in the morning but it had to rain in the afternoon and the evening... Pics below!

By the time, we left Sentosa, I had a v bad headache... but still met up with Rene and her friends for dinner at Ma Maison @ Central. Not a bad place with a good view of Clarke quay from the window. =) Had my fav. hamburger steak this time with the minced yam. Totally heavenly!

Had a bad headache today at work but Panadol fast relief saved the day but then felt super drowsy at work.... zzz

Caught this movie sometime ago last weekend but din blogged about it because I was tired / busy after work~

The decision to watch this show came late on Saturday as I was trying to get replies from GY, Law and Ivan about a couple of hours before the show starts at MARINA SQUARE. Cue panic, madness and 5 minute shower before rushing out of the house to make it almost in time for the show. Just for the sake of the show, I donned on a long white sleeved round neck tee, jeans and a dirty pair of sneakers to have the "L" look! Too bad my hair isn't as long as his~

The story in a nutshell is how he manages to solve a lot of "unsolved" cases and a last big case before he dies when he won Light in the 2nd movie. To fans, who did not watch manga / anime, Light didn't die after L did. It's the other way round. =) It's a spin off so die-hard manga fans please avoid this as it might leave a bitter aftertaste in you after the show. However the ending leaves much to be desired, might have another spin off soon?

Not bad a show to catch, for laughs and the little weird habits of L. But my favourite's still Light Yagami~ Suckers!

First of all, a Happy Chinese New Year to all! It's been a great break so far, although I've been sleeping late almost every night.

Had a sumptous steamboat for the reunion dinner on the eve at my maternal aunt's place, then had my favourite "lotus duck" at my paternal aunt's place on the 1st day. That's the one thing that I always liked about visiting on the 1st day.

Then another feast on the 2nd day at the same maternal aunt's place, but this time it's more rowdy cos all the families on my mother's side (except for 1) came visiting! A madhouse with 20+ ppl, adults and children alike!

Anyway, caught 2 "CNY" movies or 贺岁片 over the weekend with Law and gang. Watched Kung Fu Dunk with Ivan as well on the 2nd day. It's not too bad considering the negative review by some friends and in the papers. Some parts made me laugh out loud and Jay's acting has considerably improved since Initial D. Add in cameos by lotsa famous personalities and with some nice fighting scenes + basketball scenes, you've got yourself a decent movie to rake in the money!

Just caught CJ7 with Law and GY a few hours earlier. Wasn't really keen on the movie initially but still caught it in the end just to find out how "good" or "bad" it was... Well, you've got your typical Stephen Chow movie but not as funny as Kungfu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer. If you're expecting more laughs, then you'll be sorely disappointed. Kudos to Xu Jiao, prodigy child actor discovered by Stephen for acting as a schoolboy when she's a girl *gasp* Also, another actress discovered by Stephen is the beautiful Kitty Zhang Yuqi, who plays a nice teacher in the show as well. Tuesday:

Accompanied a colleague of mine. Amy after work to get her laptop fixed at Sim Lim Square, cos she wanted someone who could give some IT advice and she was afraid she might kena "eaten" by the ppl there. After sending the laptop for repair, we had dinner at some HK cafe at Bugis (can't remember the name for the love of God...) but it's opposite Ma Maison and got some HK celebrity endorsing it... Thanks Amy for the treat!

Wednesday:

Had the long-delayed dinner with Ash at Ma Maison (yes.. bugis junction again..) Suggested there cos she hasn't been there before and I liked the decor and ambience there as well. =) Managed to persuade her to try escargots and seems like she din regret it. heh~ She asked me an interesting question over dinner actually. "What's your plans for V-Dae?" To which I answered "Go to work, work, run home and hide" It's going to be depressing to be walking the streets to see couples hand-in-hand and kids trying to sell balloons and flowers at astronomical prices. Just reminds me of the state I'm in right now. To me, V-Dae's just a day when everything becomes expensive (like ERP and bak kwa). She suggested asking someone out but which sane girl would wanna come out on V-dae with me? *GASP* LOL

Thursday:

Met up with Iris, a secondary school friend of mine who I met one day while shopping for a present. She remembered me and gave me a special discount on top of the sale that was on. =) It was her off day so we had dinner at Sakae at northpoint (we both live in yishun) although i'm sceptic of sakae, it was fine except the chawanmushi took too long and our orders got mixed up. =( Tat was my treat for her for giving me the discount. Had starbucks later and I showed her my Taiwan photos on PSP. Promised to show her my Japan photos next time....

Friday:

Met up with a friend of my cousin, Louise for dinner at Kyo-Nichi Ramen at MS which I had been craving for some time~ It's my no. 4 ramen restaurant and the soup never ceases to satisfy my tastebuds. =) After that, she went back to work as she was on standby but she would be joining the rest of the gang (my cousin's frens) after that.

Got a ride from Hanjia to Arab St where they all were. He was at Millenia Walk for Salsa dancing and I'm tempted to try it out now... Cecy and gang (my cousin, Anto, Brandon) were at this Turkish place which looks good and the food there tastes good as well. Going to try there one day! We later settled at the lounge at Hotel InterContinental (bugis junction again) and more frens dropped by later (Huat, Jansen, Leni, Louise) It was nice to catch up with them over drinks and stuff and we went for supper nearby at the bak chor mee stall at Liang Seah St which Jansen "highly recommended"!

So pretty tiring this week, eating out and sleeping late, but with friends around for you, who needs love? ;)

P.S all 4 ladies are taken by the way... Haha!

A jam-packed Saturday for me yesterday! Went to my uncle's place to help him upload his webby to his page and had a free lunch treat at J8's Din Tai Fung~ Thanks!

Went back to office to do some testing for some app server upgrade which din go too well, collected my Levis from Orchard, bus down to Sunshine Plaza to stock up on Gundam modelling tools (I'm finally going to start on them!), then to Sim Lim to get a clear case for my PSP then off to dinner with Ivan at Bugis Junction. Ended up buying a pair of clip ear phones from Sony cos the in-ear phones din work well for me and reminded me pretty much for ear plugs for live firing ranges back in the army. Eeek...

Then off to his place to visit the dogs, who I missed v much~ All 7 of them. =) Then got a call from Law about catching The Mist back at Yishun GV at 1210!

The Mist's not bad, although I did not read the book. But I realised that I'm into sad movies which usually doesn't have happy endings... once again like cloverfield, it shows what men (and women) can turn into when they are overwhelmed by fear like what the movie's slogan said "Fear changes everything". If the haze were to come to Singapore, no points for guessing what I'll do. ;)

In the end, the show ended like 2.30 and I finally got to bed at about 3... zzzz to think i planned to have a good night's sleep this weekend...

While walking back from the train station back home, out of sudden, tears started streaming down my face! I was taken aback and shocked!

After quickly drying my face with tissue and checking whether my eyes looked weird after crying, I quickened my pace and walked home briskly....

Tear gland problem? Something got into my eye? Or was I hit by a wave of sorrow suddenly? All I know is that there must be something wrong with me...

On another note, I found myself at a crossroad recently. Should I continue to go to YCK or finally leave?

It's been a while since I turned up at YCK and after joining them for the past few sessions, i realised things have changed quite a bit. I missed the kids and was very touched when the kids remembered me. That's one of the happy moments I've tucked away in the corner of my mind. But i felt somehow distant and not so welcome by some of the other volunteers. Maybe after I've been away for so long, I've been forgotten? Or been perceived as a "leaver"?

Leaving is painful but if it is necessary, then so be it.... Perhaps it is really time for me to put the past behind and move on...

It's been a great weekend for me so far! Managed to clean up the mess in my room in time for CNY thanks to my mom. ;) and met YCK ppl for dinner at ol' AMK S11 and KTV later at Chinatown. After that went to catch the much-anticipated Cloverfield with who else but Law and GY!

Show's great, i love such shows where they dun reveal too much about the story

I like the part when the 2 friends lament about what they said and should have said to their loved ones before they died. Made me treasure my friends and family around even more. Also the film was made in a good way that it was all from a video camera. The tape in it was supposedly recorded over a previous video made by the lead guy, when he was on a sweet date with his girl. :) But the ending was a bit... anti climax, but expected from J.J Abrams of course...

Now talking about being enlightened... Invited by my colleague, LT to her church service at Suntec City. was apprenhensive about attending a church cos of previous bad experiences but she assured me that nothing of that sort would happen. So there I was at 11am this morning and attended my first chruch service of 2008. All went well, there was the singing of hymns (with a twist, new age + rock), holy communion (i got cracker and ribena) and bible lessons as well. The service did me some good as I could relate part of it to my own situation actually. Felt slightly better and motivated after that.

Had lunch with LT, her hubby and her hubby's brother as well at Crystal Jade and got a free treat from her brother-in-law. Thanks! After that, I took a slow walk to Sim Lim Square from Suntec (contrary to popular belief, it's not that far as you might think, about 20 mins walk?)

Bought 2 X 4GB mem sticks for Simon and was contemplating a PSP clear cover for myself but not sure what to get... Going to consult Law for that..

Later met the guys for dinner and LAN (Battlefield 2 rox!) and bought Unicorn Gundam from James as well. =) My first MG Gundam!

Happy weekend for me so far. How about yours?

Boring sunday..

Slept at 4am this morning and woke up at 10+! I just couldn't stay in bed any longer after I've woken up...

Planned to do some work from home today and ended up wathcing Great Teacher Onizuka and Gundam 00 on Crunchyroll. Finally got my butt down to start on the 2 reports I'm supposed to do by Monday. Shall touch up a bit tomorrow in the morning....

After that I continued my game in Hellgate London and my Marksman's pretty fun to play considering the different type of weapons she can use (pistols, rifles, sniper rifle) Guardian was just simply boring (sword and shield)...

Took a quick nap again at 4.30 till 7 to recharge myself and woke up just in time for dinner with my sis and my brother in law. On that, my sister and I had a short talk today. I confided in her something and it's been a while since I've done anything like that. Usually I'm afraid she'll laugh at me or laugh it off but it was nice that she gave me some advice and consolation. Am v grateful for that! Thanks Nez!

Off to sleep now. Hopefully. After 1-2 episodes of GTO. It's going to be a long week and nothing to look forward to at all. =(

Went down to YCK for the 2nd time this year... Ended up having mixed emotions when i was over there as well. I must be thinking too much according to some of my friends...

I was happy to see the kids. Really happy. They remind me of the time when one can truly smile with no worries on their mind. And I find myself actually smiling in return. My own true smile in a while. However, there were some things today that triggered unhappy thoughts as well. Shall not give more details lest ppl start guessing and misunderstanding... By the end of the session, I was feeling mentally exhausted and didn't have the energy to chat with other volunteers.

Had a quick dinner with some of the volunteers and quickly headed off to meet Law and GY for pool. Sadly, I didn't play very well and lost quite a number of games.. We caught Vexille at the Cathay and it's definitely one of my favourite movies of the year so far!

Decent storyline (better than AVP2), the 3D animation's superb but could use some touch up here and there and the music was great too! Catch it soon at the Cathay (only showing there if I'm not wrong) before it's too late!

On a short note, a very Big THANKS! to Agnes for sticking beside me when I was down, enduring the whole load of crap from me, giving me countless advice, consoling me, cheering me up, listening to my woes, watching me cry. I'll take care of myself and hope to be a stronger person soon, k?

A friend of mine told me a couple of days ago that I need to be more assertive, more confident and be more reliable / dependable. On that, I realise that people around me who are happily married or attached are of that calibre. My brother-in-law's one of them, my 大哥's also one of them as well!

Sad to say, I'm someone who's the opposite! Flighty, irrational, emotional, totally undependable. To change all that will be tough, but I gotta try no matter what. I somehow suspect though, even if I were to change myself, everything else would not have changed at all.

I find myself shying away from happy stuff and stories and feeling more and more attracted to sorrow and loneliness. You feel peace with yourself. You don't have to put on a face for people to see. I've been on 2 trips alone and it was fantastic. Planning my next solo trip to Vietnam or maybe India. Friends out there, do not worry I am not suffering from depression! I used to fear being alone and all, and try to surround myself with friends. Often making a fool of myself and humbling myself to no end, just to win their hearts. Hence the joker was born.

People usually say I'm warm and approachable and stuff like that. But that's not entirely true. My smile's usually a facade. Not to deceive people, but nobody likes a pouting sad face. it ruins the whole atmosphere. So I have to force myself to smile. When I come to the office, when i meet friends, when i return home from work. it's tiring to force myself to smile when there's nothing to smile about actually. I'm a optimist-turned-pessimist, you see. There are some rare times when I actually smile for real. Those rare moments are locked away in my brain somewhere to prevent me from going insane the next moment.

Needed some form of therapy today so I splurged a hundred odd bucks on 2 Final Fantasy VII playarts figurines of Cloud and Aeris. Too abd Tifa is sold out right now but i'll be waiting for the next batch to come in hopefully... If time permits, I'll get some snaps and post them here.

That's enough rambling for today.

P.S it appears that my previous rambling caused some worry, but rest assured, I'm still in 1 piece and to the one who gave me your advice above, i'm not angry with ya. I'm just angry with myself....

Alien Vs Predator vs Legend

2 movies in 1 week is my usual fare these days. It starts with one of us (Law, GY or me) suggesting and the rest to follow along~

I am Legend was much awaited by Law ever he saw the trailer in the cinema while catching another show. He almost tried to persuade us to watch it in Taiwan when it opened but it costs about SGD$17 to watch it there! So you think $9.50 on weekends is expensive huh?

Finally caught it on 2nd of Jan with the guys and it was pretty ok. For some you might be able to identify with Lieutenant Colonel Robert Neville (played by Will Smith) when he's pretty much the last human on Earth, after the world's population was wiped out and transformed to "vampires" (Darkseekers, nocturnal hunters, whatever the show calls it, they're still vampires ^^") Sometimes when you're alone for a looooong time, all you want to hear is another human's voice. Liked the part when he had some mannequins arranged in the DVD shop to enact a day-to-day trip to the DVD shop and it was amusing to see him trying to hit on one of them~

Read in the papers that Will holed himself up in a NY apartment for 4 weeks to get the experience of being lonely.. I've only achieved 1 week liddat so far overseas.

Overall, the show's not bad but the ending is the anti-climax, which made me go "HUH????"

On the other hand, AVP2 (it's called AVP Requiem or R in the states) is a letdown, totally B-Grade trash and not worth the 9.50 i paid yesterday. Bleah~

Too many characters involved and most of them end up dead. Fight between Alien and Predator not v exciting and clear. Bah~

I din really have a good start to 2008 so far. I was down with diarrhoea and fever yesterday and last night.. I was overwhelmed with sorrow with too much thinking, that i cried myself to sleep last night.. It's been a while since i last wept. Last time being the death of a good friend...

Kinda forgot how it feels like to cry... You might be asking me why do I feel sad for me to cry about? My answer: Everything.

Looking back at 2007, it wasn't really a good year for me... I wasn't converted to a permanent staff but got a little pay raise to keep me from jumping ship. I left YCK around CNY despite having helped there for a little over 5 years.. Apparently, I didn't sit well with some which caused me to leave before things became worse. I'm still single after 26 years of coming which worries me that I might end up like my uncles who are living alone. My uncle recently had a close brush with death which made me realise the fragility of life... I'm still unable to see any good in myself after all this while. I'm kinda like the average guy or quote from some "below-average" guy... Short, slightly overweight, skin problem, no driving licence, no car, no $$$. I'm glad that some of my friends out there continue to encourage me to keep my sanity in check. To Valerie, Lawrence, Ash, Agnes & Elaine, a big Thank You for making me feel good about myself from time to time.

However, the no. of ppl who seek to belittle me and bring me down out there are so many and I'm almost losing it...

I ever thought of running away from Singapore and start life anew somewhere. Somewhere where I won't be judged by others for who I truly am. But I just can't leave my family and a few of those I can truly call friends behind. It takes a lot of courage to do so and I'm afraid I can't do that.

I have been known to be too nice to others such that many people take me for granted and seek to exploit me which saddens me more that such people can stoop so low for personal benefit.

Stuff to do in 2008:

a) Get a driving licence
b) Slim down, (can't do much abt height anyway)

Not gotta let ppl look down upon me anymore...

Enough of my tirade, back to sleep now.

Hah~ Not the real London in UK but the latest game from Flagship Studios, IAHgames and Hanbitsoft, Hellgate London. The game that took the world like a storm. Thanks to Ivan who got it for me for my birthday!

Talking about birthdays, this year seems different. I usually look forward to my bdae to remind myself that I managed to survive another year without ending up dead, bankrupt or seriously injured. It's always the time of year for me to look back upon the past 1 year and re-examine my life. Made more friends than lost? Made more money than lost? Stuff like that.

Although I usually announce loudly on MSN when my bdae is near but I shan't do it this year though.. In fact, when Ash asked me what I wanted for my bdae, I couldn't give her a straight answer! I always plan out what I want for my birthday present (saving the trouble from lotsa concerned people around me?) but I'm at a loss actually. I got my PSP myself, a trip to Japan and a Liverpool home jersey as well. My sis should be getting the pair of Nike running shoes (Yes, I'm going to start running again) I've been coveting for and apart from those, I've nothing to ask for already? Heh~

Am installing Hellgate right now and going to join my mates in there (Law and GY) as soon as it is done! *beams* It's going to keep me pretty occupied sia... I have Heroes 5: Tribes of the East, 5 books to finish reading as well as Gundam Seed: OMNI vs ZAFT on PSP as well as my Gundam Wing Custom Zero to do up as well. Phew~

The Golden Hitman

That's 2 shows in 4 days! Caught The Golden Compass on Friday with Ivan, Law and GY. It's not bad and it's actually adapted from a book series ala Harry Potter! Had dinner with Ivan as well on Saturday and went to Kino at Bugis Junction to find the book but ended buying The Legend of Drizzit Part II.

For ppl not in the know, that's fantasy for you and it's part of the Forgotten Realms series + Drizzit's one of my favourite characters in the series!

Then kena psychoed by Law to watch Hitman just now. The trailer for this show in the cinema already set my heart racing for this. I've played the game before (Part I only, din try part II, was there a part III?) and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. How you set up your kill, your weapon of choice (I remember there was a sick looking dagger you could use) and most importantly your escape route! You could barge in guns a blazing (like Law did) or stealth and cunning (like me) now feel like re-playing the game again... Heez

Thinking of getting the free membership for GV, Shaw and Cathay at this rate sia... Almost once a week. Woot~

Had dinner with Alice and Lu Xin at Waraku while Alice's in Singapore right now till Friday! Alice's one of my colleague from HK and she's here for a couple of days for training. So good right, go on overseas trip for training. Nice~ Wish I could do that as well...

Had my favourite Rindo (katsu don with cold soba + udon!) Shiok~ Later Lu Xin had to leave for home so I accompanied Alice to Carrefour to buy some stuff. Guess what she bought? Yakult! According to her, the only type of Yakult you'll find in HK are the original flavour ones (red cap) So she bought 2 X orange and 2 X apple flavour (she said she din like the grape flavour anyway...) and I bought my 2L Meiji milk bottle. Yum~

Later I took a cab back from Carrefour cos my feet still hurts a little (refer to last post) and I waited for almost 50 mins for a cab! It didn't help when most of the cabs that came in were on call. I tried calling almost every single cab company in S'pore and couldn't get one at all. =( Also there was this irritatig couple behind me in queue who kept bumping into me when doing their PDA (Public Display of Affection) and they din sound v sincere when they said "Sorry" Hmm! Go get a room for goodness's sake!

One nice dinner down. Tml's dinner with my team at a Myanmar restaurant with Andreas!

Sat for my JLPT2 today at the Japanese Secondary School at Clementi. Didn't help if my foot's injured from wearing that cursed pair of leather shoes for my company's D&D on Friday! So there I was, limping slowly to the school...

The test was pretty difficult! I will be counting my lucky starts if I pass sia.. Haiz.. Anyway, later met up with Ivan cos he wanted to buy a pair of leather shoes for his fren's wedding tml. So I gave him lotsa advice on how to choose a gd pair of leather shoes cos I've chosen pretty bad ones before.. *looks at injured foot* =(

And I managed to get the component cable for PSP and tried it on the TV! Looks great! =)

Now hope I can get well soon in time of my Taiwan trip! Cya!

Caught this movie thanks to my sis's pair of movie tickets for Cathay. She's enjoying herself in Sydney now... Oh well... Couldn't guess anything much from the poster initially, only saw Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Gardner (yeah baby!) holding rifles.

The plot is actually more than what you think. The initial credits were choreographed amazingly. Love the way they manage to compress 70+ years of history about oil + US + Saudi Arabia + terrorism all into a nice 2D package. Simply said, terror strikes right in the heartland of Saudi, blowing up US ppl living there. US too afraid to act, Jamie Foxx and his team of FBI march straight in to set things right and kill the bad guys. =)

A few more movies to catch soon.. Golden Compass, I Am Legend, etc..

This week's going to be pretty busy. AM EXTREMELY busy preparing for my japanese exam this sunday. Don't think I'm going to make it this time... There's too much to study.. Tml's my company D & D and everybody (i think) is going to dress up! Next week my siu mui, Alice, from HK office is coming to SG! And we'll be having a nice farewell dinner with my German colleague, Andreas who's heading off to London and Frankfurt soon. Phew~

Today's pretty packed for me~ Went to Changi in the morning for a Japanese cultural quiz at the Japanese School. Ash was the one who told me about the event. It's a 150 MCQ quiz and i think the top prize is a trip to Japan! =)

Arrved 15 mins before registration and I could see some ppl burying their heads in books on culture and history of Japan. I was like "!!!!" It's only a quiz yah, nothing much you can do to prepare you for this. In the end, there were questions like population of Japanese living in Singapore, S'pore's population density is how many times more than Japan. Glad I could answer the questions on anime, food and transportation system in Japan. Heh, pays to visit Japan!

Met Princess at Orchard for a bit of shopping and I bought the Gatsby Moving Rubber styling wax! Gonna learn how to style my hair to the "Out-Of-Bed" Look. ;) Caught Hero later thanks to the pair of free tickets I won at my company's fire drill quiz. Hero's not bad, even if you dun understand Japanese, the English and Chinese subtitles are quite accurate. Kimura Takuya and one of my fav Japanese actresses Takako Matsu are simply great. One of the more memorable characters in the movie was the bartender in their usual watering hole. Cool demeanor, silent but yet very thoughtful in the end. ;) Catch it while you can!

Just came back from my sis's ROM at Labrador Park. Really nice place but the sky was threatening to rain so the ceremony was held as soon as the JP arrived and had a reception indoors in a private room later.

My sis, finally married, *tears from eyes*~ Aww.. The restaurant there totally sucked. First, no English spoons for the fried rice. Then small plates (which were 1 standard size, according to the manager) but later I saw bigger plates used by the guests eating outside... -_- Then no small spoons for the mango pudding in the shooter glass. The manager insisted eating it like drinking a shooter, but after I asked the manager to show me how, he reluctantly went to get some small spoons for us, much to the relief of the other guests. Took some shots over there and will upload them, with my sis's permission. Stay tuned!

On another hand, I caught Stardust, Lust Caution and Beowulf recently and they were entertaining. Stardust is your typical romantic comedy. Claire Danes was not bad as a fallen shooting star but the real star was Robert de Niro as a act-tough-but-actually-a-wussy pirate captain. =) Catch the part where Claire tries to describe what Love is. ;)

Lust, Caution's a period war show but it focuses on the steamy relationship between Wang Jia Chi (Tang Wei) and Yee (Tony Leung). Wang's a spy for the resistance faction who is supposed to assasinate Yee who's working for the Japanese during Japan's occupation of Shanghai. Much hype about the R21 version and I finally realized why Carina Lau, long time gf of Tony Leung, would be flaring mad with him. LOL

Beowulf's an animated action / comedy film but the animation was done pretty well, initially letting me believe that it was acted by human beings. Story's about how a monster slaying hero becomes king but falls prey later to a seducing water demon. (Angelina Jolie!)

Basically...

Friday: Halloween Party at Chris's! Kudos to Chris and his missus for organising a great party for both young and old at his place~

Saturday: Wedding dinner for Law's sis followed by a great night of dancing and drinking at Attica~

Sunday: Met up with Kitty for lunch, followed by shopping (collected by G2000 pants and bought a Levi's polo tee on sale) and movie + dinner with Princess~

Sorry for the long delay in my posts~ Just back from Japan. Overall the trip was not bad albeit a bit tiring. But it was a good break from work!

Here are some of the highlights of my trip for each place I visited and the ppl I need to thank for making my trip enjoyable!

Hiroshima:

Went to Iwakuni for the first time with my host family! It's a nice, serene town with magnificent mountains. Looks like a scene from a postcard if you ask me. Thanks to my host family for bringing me to eat my favourite okonomiyaki and momiji manju! I bought Blokus for the children and they absolutely loved it! =)

Osaka:

Stayed at Mine's place! Enjoyed a warm reception by his whole family and he brought me around Osaka with Keiichi, who came to Singapore with Mine in September this year. On top of that, Mine and his family and Keiichi gave me lotsa of souvenirs that I had to ask him to help me to mail some back to Singapore for me. :P Thanks for everything!

Places I went to included Osaka Aquarium, Shimsaibashi, OPU (Mine's university), Universal Studios Japan! Yeah~

Kyoto:

First time to Kyoto! During one of the days in Osaka, Mine and Keiichi brought me to Kyoto as well! Went to the famous Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion Temple) and Kiyomizu Temple. A pity it was dark when we reached Kiyomizu that I couldn't take any pictures of it! It was a long trek up a slope to the temple as well though... Will go back to Kyoto next time!

Nagoya:

First time to Nagoya! Went there to meet up with Hiroko, a friend I got to know during my Hiroshima Homestay Programme on my 1st trip to Japan. It's been 2 years since we last met and she's working in Nagoya for about a month or so. I travelled to the Italian Village near the harbour and met her for dinner together! Wanted to eat the famous Nagoya Miso-katsu and got my chance! Look at the pics and you will know why. It's so marvellicious~ Only regret was that I forgot to pass to her the present I got for her and I got to mail it to her now. >_<

Tokyo:

This was my 3rd time back to Tokyo although I had stayed in different places in the past (Ikebukuro and Shinjuku). This time I stayed in this hostel in Asakusa~ The hostel's pretty nice and clean with friendly staff and fellow hostel mates as well. *Two thumbs up*

Went to Ginza before heading down to Sanno Park Tower to visit my fellow colleagues in Deutsche Bank~ Much awaited for me as it was my first time to another branch office! Thanks to Ohsaki-san, Kyoko and Terumi for bringing me out to a nice izakaya for a absolutely gastronomic feast and a round of drinks later at a nice Okinawa bar!

Other highlights would include my usual trip to Akihabara and on Terumi's recommendation, I ventured into a maid cafe for a look. It felt weird at first when the "maids" there address you as "Master" and they kneel down when they take your order. Too bad no pictures were allowed... Bought 4 electronic dictionaries for 3 of my Japanese class classmates and myself at a deal too! Akiba's the place! =)

Something also happened in Tokyo as well. I was buying my train ticket at Asakusa Station when a pretty Korean girl asked me for help. Apparently she and her mom wanted to get from Asakusa to another station but wasn't sure how to get there. Since my station was along the way, i offered them to show them the way. Soon after we hit it off pretty ok and exchanged emails as well. I've sent her an email when I was back and hope she replies soon~ ;)

Yokohama:

First time there as well and it was a real treat to abuse, i mean, use effectively my Japan Rail Pass for a 15 minute ride from Tokyo to Yokohama. My main purpose in Yokohama? The Raumen Museum (the spelling error was meant to be) As some of you might know, I'm nuts about ramen! It's like going to the Holy Grail of Ramen~

1st floor's souvenir shops and some history exhibits of ramen but when you go down to the basement.. It's an replica of Japan in the 1930s with traditional shophouses, although the shops are modern. The 8 best ramen restaurants have been gathered here by the museum and are plying their ware. You can buy a mini bowl of ramen at abt 550 yen so that you can try other ramen restaurants without blowing up your tummy. I tried 3 bowls in all, from Kumamoto, Hakata and Sapporo and I gotta admit that the Kumamoto's one was the best among the lot! Pity I couldn't try the other 5 cos I was too full! Will definitely go back again for another round!

I just coined the term above which mean Providing Extra Crappy Service , that is the opposite of GEMS (Go the Extra Mile for Service).

Last Sunday, my sister and JB brought our families to this restaurant at Suntec Convention Centre Level 3. No names allowed but let's just call it PRP restaurant. (Smart ppl should be able to find out which one...)

We had the a la carte buffet which costs about $32.80+++ per pax and there was the free Mini Buddha jumps over the wall and the Crispy Skin Duck as well. There were 12 of us so we ordered quite a number of dishes at a time. The dishes were served surprisingly fast, in fact too fast, with the nasty waiter hurrying us to clear up plates so that he could serve up the next dish. Coupled with the irksome "后面烧，来" (Careful, something hot behind!" even when serving cold drinks, salmon sashimi, the mood was pretty dampened but some of us managed to poke fun at that to lighten things up.

When quizzed at the speed of serving of the dishes, the waiter replied "Here is buffet one, our chef cook already then serve loh, standard one." Even the assistant manager quipped "Maybe next time you can order fewer dishes at a time so that they won't be served also fast.." Even as we made some way for the waiter to serve the dishes, he would find the narrowest of places to squeeze in. -_- The restaurant was hardly far from full house... and it wasn't the case that we were sitting at a small table with not much space for the dishes...

I was like WTF! Cook already means must serve immediately meh! Still want guests to order at the pace you set? And with waiters hurrying us to finish up the food? Not the kind of service I would expect from a restaurant. Did i mention it was named one of Singapore's 50 best restaurants by Tatler? Shocking.

The only thing that saved its skin was the food which was not bad. Too bad it was a meeting for both families else I would be happily snapping pics away at the food le.. So be warned if you're going to PRP next time, either

1. Order in "moderation" as suggested by the assistant manager
2. Order the dishes. One. By. One.
3. Call along someone who can "sapu" (clear) dishes pretty fast cos after all, "buffet mah, standard one"
4. Join up more tables to accomodate the rushing pace of delivery.

Cheers to good food anyway~

Met up with Ash on Thursday to eat at Miharu! It's been a while since I saw her and she's started working loh! Been there twice and it's the best ramen joint in Singapore, in my honest opinion! I had Miso Tonkotsu （味噌豚骨） and hers was Tokusen Miso（特選味噌）Some pics below to tantalise your taste buds!

I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry! One of the funniest movies i've enjoyed this year so far. Totally hilarious and had me in stitches! Caught it with Ivan and GY on Sunday before meeting up with Law for pool and to buy his pool cue + case.

Story in a nutshell: Long time buddies / firefighters Larry Valentine (Kevin James) and Chuck Levine (Adam Sandler) are getting married to help Larry out of his legal woes.... Until they meet a pesky investigator and a hot lawyer Alex (Jessica Biel) There's this unforgettable scene where Chuck gets to fondle Alex's assets for like infinity... The cinema went "Aww!" But the best parts of the show are Ving Rhames shining in one role which I possibly would never imagine him in and the funny Asian pastor who marries Chuck and Larry....

Anyway, met up with Law later to play pool and we finally got for Law his pool cue and case which costs a whopping, jaw-dropping 780 bucks! But he really likes it and we're ok with it. YY, you owe me $$$, if you happen to read this!

But anyway, v v v v happy to know Law's hot date on Saturday went well! *beams* Wish I could have something like that soon~ *mind drifts off*

12 days to Japan!

Ra-Ra-Ra-Men day!

Heh, had my favourite food twice in a day! Lunch with my colleagues at Fuji Don cafe, which is quite secluded but price is ok and serves pretty decent food! I ordered Katsu Ramen which tasted not bad surprisingly!

Then met Cecy for dinner, which was postponed some time ago when I had to OT in the office one day...

Anyway, we ate at Marutama Ramen at Central! Been there a couple of times and only had the Marutama Ramen and the Karashi Marutama Ramen (slightly spicy) before. This time I tried the Aka Ramen with the soup base made from 7 different kind of nuts. Soup was orange in colour but it tasted really nice! Even cecy said it tasted better than her Marutama Ramen~ Also had Kakuni which is pork belly with seasoning and cooked in a very nice stew~ Woot~

After ramen, we went to Yamakawa Super (a new Japanese supermarket) selling all kinds of snacks and drinks to get some tidbits and a orange pudding which we shared, little doughnuts going at 4 bucks for 12 and to round it off, Hokkaido Asabu Sabo Ice Cream! Yeah~ Had my fav. Rum and Raisin which she had her Macha Vanilla Twist. Too bad I din take any pics of the Ramen and the stuff we ate but I got a pic of the Marutama Ramen on my phone which I'll upload soon when I have the time, i guess...

After 1 long and tiring week of trying, I finally got my contact lenses on! Haha.. Most of you would laugh at how long I took to wear my contacts but considering that the lenses are 14mm and my eye aperture is only 13.4mm, it takes some level of difficulty to open them big enough, okie? :P

Went out with Law and GY on Sunday for a couple of games of pool and played pretty well, I thought. Thanks Law and GY! Then went on to meet Ivan's friends at Chijmes for a outdoor jazz thingy but it was raining and I guess it was cancelled. Nevertheless, we still took a picture to show that we were there!

Later we all chilled out at a lounge in Swissotel Stamford where we also celebrated Cecy's bdae! If you're reading this, happy bdae girl! =)

Now gotta wake up earlier than usual to wear my contact lenses before I head off to work~ ;)

It means Welcome to Singapore! That's for Ohta-kun who came with Mine from Osaka! It's his first time outside Japan and first place is Singapore! Hehe, nice to see Mine after some time, although I'm going to visit him next month! *beams*

Came in on Friday and stayed at my place till Sunday night, then they checked in into a hotel at Beach Road although I insisted that they could stay at my place all the way~

Brought them to the Singapore Zoological Gardens, Chinatown, Merlion Park, Esplanade, Glutton's Bay, even to Pitstop, my friend's board game cafe! Went there on Friday and Saturday, twice in a row! That was on Saturday..

Sunday. Wet market near my place for a look, then off to Vivocity (Mine wanted to see it so much!), Saw JJ Lin there and i was surprised when Mine mentioned that he knew who JJ was. *impressed* After that the whole lot of us went to Sentosa to the Merlion Tower, Pink Dolphin Lagoon and Underwater World and the Song of the Seas show~ Frankly speaking, I've never been to the Pink Dolphin show and the Song of the Seas show! So quite an experience for me~

Heard that today they went to NUS today and going to Orchard tml! Meeting them for dinner after work~ Took lotsa of photos and going to need some time to edit them before I post them up!

On another note, I had a bad headache at work today and my boss let me go home early. Even missed my Japanese class today as well. *sulks* Feeling a tad better now but hopefully can go to work tml~

No... that's not what you think... It's actually a turkey!

Went bowling with Sonia and Tun Naung on Saturday at Safra Yishun and I got my 2nd turkey in my entire life! Turkey by the way is 3 strikes in a row. So that's about a cool 70 points at least already.. Woot! Too bad din take any group photo with them that day and it was a pity that Xin and Adrielle couldn't join us that day too..

Tucked into a sumptous mutton briyani at Northpoint Food court which I dared to recommend to my colleagues. I mean, where else can you find 10+ ppl queuing up at a foodcourt stall? (Although my father says the reason is that the people serving are slow...)

After dinner, went to Changi Airport to see some of my other colleagues off as they are going to London for training! So lucky.. It's part of their graduate trainee program and why didn't I join it at first.... Here's a pic we took together before they left.

Procrastination means... putting off something you've set to do that you've decided for a long time already..

2 movies to give my 2 cents' worth! Caught The Bourne Ultimatum with A07/08 (uni class) last Sunday and Brave Story with GY and Law today...

1. Bourne Ultimatum

The final of the trilogy about Jason Bourne, a government assassin who's trying to find his lost memories and getting them back at any cost... He's cool, slick and very clever, outwitting everybody in the CIA. Heh~

Liked the part when he lures the chief out of his office and the chief tries to lie to Bourne over the phone that he's in the office. Bourne says "I doubt so. If not you and I would be having this conversation face-to-face right now." Hysteria among the CIA ensues. Classic.

Overall not too bad a movie, some scenes are really draggy... but it does round up the story nicely and there could be a sequel? DN commented that the movie could be watched as a single movie without watching the first 2 Bourne series cos it introduces the first 2 in a nutshell. =)

2. Brave Story

2 thumbs up for the movie! Good decent storyline, not too draggy, sits well with fantasy fans. It's almost like a RPG (role playting game), even has a good guy gone bad. Wow~

It's about this boy, called Wataru, who's facing some troubles at home. Father left the family and Mom landed in hospital. He befriends a nonchalant guy called Mitsuru who unleashes some kind of magic to scare some bullies away for Wataru. Mitsuru asks him to enter a certain doorway to another world where he can change his destiny, i.e. get his broken family back. Ends up meeting new people and embarking on a quest to find 5 different gems to get his wish come true.

The whole show's in Japanese but the transalation's decent enough. Nice graphics and soundtrack add icing on the cake~ It's ending its run soon so better catch it quick at any Cathay cineplexes (cos they're only showing that) before it's too late!

Finally caught Rush Hour 3! Always skeptic about watching sequels.. I would rate this as mildly entertaining for the action and the witty one-liners~ But other than that, the show's pretty much a flop, sad to say.. NO storyline, some elements in the story go missing, abrupt ending, etv, You name it, it's got it!

And my favourite character in the show? George, the French taxi driver! V funny and pokes fun at America in a light-hearted way~

So many other shows to watch as well.. Bourne Ultimatum, Brave Story, etc. Help!

Some of the stuff I did in chronological order~

Wednesday: Met GY for dinner at orchard and played pool with Law after that. My fav. haunt, Pool Junction at Middle Road just revamped their place. They removed 6 of their pool tables and created a cosy lounge / bar, that means fewer tables = longer waiting time for a table. So the 3 of us chilled out at the lounge and Law took this nice photo of my Shirley Temple with a candle behind cos my phone's camera wasn't as good as his~

Finally got our table at about 11pm and played for about 2 hours before heading back home~ Yeah~

Thursday: Mentioned this in my earlier post that I was going to go down to La Tendo to check out its 20% sale and got for myself a cute small version of Saber from Fate/Stay Night. Will try to get a pic of it and upload soon. Then had dinner with Ivan and GY before heading back to Ivan's place. The dogs were happy to see me (i guess...) and one of the older dogs even gave me a small bite to get me to play with him~ Hehe~ Also introduced Ivan to the world of Granado Espada and seems like he's taking it like a fish to water!

Friday: Met up with Agnes for dinner at Fish and Co @ Wheelock Place and got my favourite window seat. There was some kind of National Day Celebration thingy at Fish and Co, there was a balloon sculptor going around making free balloon toys for the customers~ Check out the pics below.

Having this phobia of shoes ever since I bought 2 pairs of shoes that din really fit nicely. Hope this one works well... The guys (and girl) came to my place for mahjong later and I lost about 6 bucks which was not bad, considering YY and BZ won quite a bit.... Felt a little lucky not to have continued when Law took over my place. Phew~

Yeah! Caught the much-awaited The Simpsons movie at Sun Plaza with my usual mates on Thursday. Got through quite a bit of trouble to get the tickets cos the bloody Shaw Website was down and the hotline wasn't really.. ermn.. hot....

Anyway, I was practically the only one who was laughing from start to end... Guess the rest of the ppl in the cinema din understand or thought that wasn't funny... lol! Liked the part where Homer and Bart playes Truth or Dare! Keke~ For those who are going to watch the movie, be early so as not to miss the start when the 20th Century Fox part comes up!

Wanna watch Gone Shopping but there isn't anyone to join me.. *sulks* oh well...

Mahjong frenzy~

Been playing mahjong late till the wee hours in the morning on Friday and Saturday. Managed to escape unscathed each time although there's always a big winner amongst us each night. Managed to make a couple of dollars~ Phew~

Mahjong's more than a social activity to me, I feel. Requires thinking, anticipation, keen observation and probability skills (yes, maths!) And the 1 thing I like about the game is how almost every game is different and you could change your playing style during each round to match your opponents'. =)

Going to chill out at home today and just GE all the way... Just managed to clear my credit card bills after sorting through the wad of receipts accumulated in my box all these while! Heh~
